Together with Tore Wig, I have a recent publication in Political Geography, where we show that the quality of local institutions is important in reducing the risk of local conflict violence.
To test our hypothesis we georeference survey data from the Afrobarometer and connect these with georeferenced data on armed conflict events. The results show that the quality of local institutions are important in reducing the risk of conflict, even after controlling for the quality of national institutions.
